holistic Dietitians Holistic Dietitians are Accredited/Registered Practising Dietitians who combine the science of dietetics with evidence based techniques that deal with stress and its connection to food.
Holistic dietitians take a mind-body and whole-food approach in helping their clients deal with nutritional health issues. First and foremost, they have recognised qualifications in dietetics and are registered or licensed to practise like a ‘regular’ dietitian. Holistic dietitians have 3 key differences to ‘regular’ dietitians. Firstly, they take a wholistic view to foods and nutrition instead of the conventional reductionist view, that breaks food down into individual nutrients. They rarely suggest supplements or non food sources of nutrition, knowing that the combination of nutrients found in whole-foods cannot be replicated in non food sources. Secondly, they recognise and deal with the mind-body connection that often underpins poor dietary habits that contribute to chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes. They recognise that willpower alone never works when dealing with issues such as comfort food eating, cravings or bingeing. Thirdly, they use Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to heal the body and reverse type 2 diabetes and conditions associated with it such as high blood pressure. Our recommended holistic dietitians typically have additional qualifications in health related fields such as Life Coaching, Wellness Coaching and Emotional Freedom Techniques Coaching (EFT). A holistic dietitian’s approach involves nutritional planning and the creation of long term, sustainable food practices. By using tools such as EFT and coaching skills, they help their clients to say goodbye to long standing relationship with food issues such as cravings, stress eating and more. Many health conditions will respond to dietary modification including diabetes and associated weight issues. When dietary modification is used in conjunction with EFT and coaching techniques, long term changes can be more easily sustained, making maintaining a specific dietary and exercise plan effortless.
